Sunday Prayer 45

The people of God in times past
would light candles at the altar,
burn the daily incense offerings,
and offer sacrifices to You in the tabernacle.

May we today as Your people
light our lives in worship before You,
lift our prayers to You like incense,
and offer spiritual sacrifices of praise to You.

Be glorified, O God, above the heavens
and let Your glory shine over all the earth.
Receive glory and honor in our worship
even as You inhabit the praises of Your people.

Sunday Prayer 44

Heavenly Father,
who holds us and all eternity in Your hands,
who broods with creative power over the cosmos
and covers us with Your wings,
envelope us with Your unfailing love,
strengthen us with Your faithful presence,
and lead us with Your powerful word,
so that in this vale of tears,
where powers and principalities war against Your children,
we might walk worthy of our calling,
bringing great glory to Your worthy Name,
through Jesus Christ, the coming King,
Amen.

Sunday Prayer 43

Good Shepherd of the sheep,
come shepherd us.
We are tossed about like ships
upon the waves;
the cares and fears of life
surround us.
Speak peace as only You can.

Voices rise and fall, making promises
that none can keep;
words of anger and fear
fill our ears.
Speak truth as only You can.

Our wounds stink and fester
no matter our best efforts;
the short-term healing
cannot stop our infections.
Heal life as only You can.

Good Shepherd of the sheep,
come shepherd us.
We worship and bow down before You,
for You are Our God
and we are the people of Your pasture.

Sunday Prayer 42

As we enter this day, Lord,
help us to hear Your voice singing love over us.

As we speak with others, Lord,
speak to our souls of Your love for us,
whether others love us or not.

As we work at our endeavors, Lord,
help us work as unto You,
while not searching for significance in our accomplishments.

As we draw near to the day’s end, Lord,
grant us grace to release all things –
joys and sorrows, successes and failures –
into Your hands, so that You might grant us rest.

All this we pray through Jesus Christ,
the Lord of our days,
Amen.

Sunday Prayer 41

the sun, moon, and stars,
spoken into space,
still sing the ancient melody,
of God’s great grace and power.

the rising sun and midnight gloaming
echo the divine power,
arching the back and breathing the breath
into every living thing.

and now,
that same power and grace
takes time and space upon itself,
inhabits human flesh and bone,
arches its back and breathes breath
like every living thing.

Messiah, alive and kicking,
baby King singing infant songs
into the night of Bethlehem-town,
by my King in my world today.
