Here are my notes from a pre-conference session at the Exponential 2014 conference given by Mac Lake on leadership development. It was a great session for me personally, and I shared it at the Leadership Forum on May 5 at Eastbrook Church.

Six keys to developing tomorrow’ leaders:

1. Look for willingness rather than readiness

• Develop, but don’t wait for ready-made leaders
• “if we wait for readiness, our pipeline will be dry”
• There is a difference between leadership development and leadership placement

2, We have to give young leaders game-time opportunities now not later

• We value excellence over leadership development
• Because of this, we don’t risk putting others forward
• We get addicted to success and people’s approval
• Because of this we don’t give others a shot
• Think of Jesus sending out the 12 – they didn’t get it; some were really young – but they were doing the wonders of the kingdom
