Two days ago, I posted a creed of sorts called “I Want to Live from the Center of Things.” I’d like to take the next number of posts to expand on some of the individual statements found within that post. So, here goes …
I want to live from the center of things.
I want to be who I am, where I am, no matter the other people or things around.
What would it be like if we were just who we are, without fear or concern for others’ opinions or the setting in which we find ourselves.
How many times have you found yourself being one person in one setting and another in another setting?
How many times have you thought after leaving a party that you wouldn’t have said or done such and such a thing if you had been with other people or somewhere else?
Have you ever compromised your understanding of life to passively and quietly live with others and in new places, but felt an aching sense of disquiet about it?
I am tired of living in that way. I am tired of being one sort of person in a particular setting and another sort of person in another setting. I will not avoid rocking the boat. I will not avoid being who God has made me.
God has made us all unique. He has given us unique gifts, beauty, talents, personalities, and ways of seeing life. It is an embarrassment to us, to life, and to God that we should hide that uniqueness by sliding through relationships and settings like a chameleon changing our display.
God has made us for more than that. I believe that to be true.
I want to live from the center of things.
I want to be who I am, where I am, no matter the other people or things around.
