New Sins?

A recent CNN story was entitled “Vatican lists new sinful behaviors.” While some of us may be skeptical of the Roman Catholic hierarchy and approach to religion, I found this to be a thought-provoking article.

In every time and place, there are unique acts and ideas of cultures that, while not specifically mentioned in Scripture, need to be evaluated by the Scripture.

This new list of sins reminds me of the fact that we need to be constantly assessing our culture and lives to see if we are subtly spinning into sin that isn’t named explicitly as sin in Scripture.

While the writer of Ecclesiastes can say “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecc. 1:9), we need to remember that age-old sins re-clothe themselves again and again. It is to our own destruction that we fail to realize this.
