How Is God Speaking to You? (week 2)

A number of us are reading through the Bible in a year together in 2011. Every week, I will simply be leaving a small post where you all can leave responses of how God has been speaking to you through reading the Scriptures each day. This gives us the unique opportunity to keep a record together of how God speaks through the year to all of us.

Your insights can be short or long, simple or complex. The joy of this is hearing about what God is doing as we read together and pray for one another this year.

So, how is God speaking to you this week through your readings in Genesis, Psalms, Proverbs, and the Gospel of Matthew?

  1. Because of difficult storms that Jesus has led me right into this past year, I have found the Psalms to be very comforting. They feel like a genuine invitation from God, to come before Him as I am; wounded and afraid! I found Psalm 3, to be especially powerful! Vs. 4 states, “To the Lord I cry aloud and He answers me from His holy Hill. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.” Jesus has led me right into a storm, that was “stilled” for me when He died on the cross. Before I was even born, He answered to everything that will ever be done to me, and done by me, at the cross! He is the reason for the hope I have in the midst of any storm!

    1. Thank you for sharing, Teresa. He is the Lord who stands in the midst of our storms, that is for sure. One of my favorite lines in Psalm 3 is also verse 4. There is something powerful about being able to “lie down and sleep” because of God’s grace and strength in the storm. I pray that you know it deeply these days.

  2. Reading chunks of the OT and NT each day is really helping me see the big picture. It’s truly amazing to see how God’s love flows from the very first words of Genesis all the way through the Psalms and Proverbs and the Gospels — and ultimately into each of our hearts thru the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s both comforting and challenging at the same time. What an awesome privilege it is to participate in God’s divine plan. Thanks for all the encouragement, Matt — it’s much appreciated!
