A Prayer inspired by Hebrews 13:1-25

image 3 - Hebrews

Throughout our series “The Final Word: Knowing Christ through Hebrews,” I am writing prayers related to the text on which we are preaching each week. Today’s prayer is the final one in this series and is drawn from Hebrews 13:1-25. The complete list of prayers inspired by Hebrews is included at the bottom of this post. You can also view my message, “Worship and the Final Word,” drawn from this passage here.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—
we worship You
and want our lives to overflow
with living worship of You, the Triune God.

May our life as a church community,
our friendships and marriages,
our relationship with money,
and our care for the least of these bring You glory.

Thank You, Father, for offering Your Son
as the Mediator of the new covenant
through His sacrificial death upon the Cross
and His resurrection glory at Your right hand.

May our lives now be living sacrifices,
not to earn Your favor,
but as a grateful response
to Your unending grace and sovereign plan.

Equip us with everything good
for doing Your will, our God,
so that with holy and loving lives
we might bring You both joy and glory.

All this we pray through You, Father,
who with Jesus the Eternal Son
and the indwelling Holy Spirit,
are One God, both now and forever.
Amen.

Throughout our new series “The Final Word: Knowing Christ through Hebrews,” I am writing prayers related to the text on which we are preaching each week. This prayer is drawn from Hebrews 12:14-29. The complete list of prayers inspired by Hebrews is included at the bottom of this post. You can also view my message, “Make Every Effort,” drawn from this passage here.

Holy, holy, holy are You
Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come—
You alone are God.

We humbly approach You
knowing that we have nothing in ourselves to bring
other than our emptiness
that only You can fill with Your great provision.

Thank You for your abundant provision
through Jesus Christ, the Mediator of the new covenant.
In Him we have been graced
with every spiritual blessing You could possibly give.

We trust the blood of Christ
as fully sufficient above every other thing.
We turn from sin and idolatry
to You, the One and Only God.

May our lives be built on Christ alone,
the firm foundation for our faith
and the all-sufficient sacrifice
Who brings us life and salvation.

All this we pray through You, Father,
who with Jesus the Eternal Son
and the indwelling Holy Spirit,
are One God, both now and forever.
Amen.

The complete list of prayers inspired by Hebrews is included at the bottom of this post. You can also view the message I preached drawn from this passage “Sufficient,” here.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You are the all-sufficient sacrifice.
Your body and blood were the price
to make us free.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You are the true and prophesied High Priest,
the One who would come to redeem
lost humanity.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You brought an end to endless sacrifice
Offering Yourself to realize
God’s promised peace.

Lord Jesus Christ,
everything we have is a gift from You.
In response we give what You’re due:
all that we are.

Throughout our new series “The Final Word: Knowing Christ through Hebrews,” I am writing prayers related to the text on which we are preaching each week. This prayer is drawn from Hebrews 9:1-28. The complete list of prayers inspired by Hebrews is included at the bottom of this post. You can also view the message by Pastor Femi Ibitoye from this passage “Deep Worship,” here.

Father, we praise You for Your matchless glory.
You are beyond us veiled in holiness,
yet You revealed Yourself in Jesus the Son,
who is the exact representation of Your being.

Jesus Christ, we thank You for offering Yourself to God
as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world,
presented through the eternal Spirit for eternal redemption.
You have become the Mediator of the New Covenant with God.

Jesus Christ, we know that Your blood is incomparable
to the blood of bulls and goats offered in the earthly tabernacle.
Thank You for entering into the heavenly tabernacle
to offer true and lasting cleaning and forgiveness.

We offer our lives as our humble gift in response to Your great gift.
May our bodies be as living sacrifices to You, merciful God,
our spiritual act of worship given back to You each day
as we grow from glory to glory until we see You face to face.

All this we pray, through Jesus Christ,
Our High Priest and Perfect Sacrifice,
to whom, with You and the Holy Spirit
be all honor and glory, now and forever.
Amen.

The complete list of prayers inspired by Hebrews is included at the bottom of this post. You can also view my message from this passage “New Promise,” here.

Jesus, You are the One we truly need—
holy, blameless, pure, set apart.
You are exalted above the heavens
and the Name above every name.

Jesus, You are the Lamb of God we need.
You offered Yourself as once-for-all sacrifice.
You take away the sin of the world.
You do what we cannot do for salvation and life.

Jesus, You are the Mediator of the New Covenant we need.
You brought forgiveness of sins,
wrote God’s guidance on our inner being,
and have made knowing the Living God accessible to us.

Jesus, we love You.
Jesus, we need You.
Jesus, we call out to You.
Jesus, we praise You.
Amen.
