So, this may seem like a tangential post (especially after such a long hiatus), but today the International Astronomical Union has stripped Pluto of its status as a planet. Not exactly a Copernican Revolution in our understanding of the solar system, but a significant change in classification for our planets. We are now downgraded to a classical eight planet solar system.
I’m sure you’ll remember this moment much like you remember where you were when 9-11 happened.

Actually, there is quite a row about this whole thing. Supporters of the man who discovered Pluto in 1930 are reacting intensely to this.
