Contentment: some sermon resources

I’m preparing my sermon for this weekend at Brooklife, and came upon a host of wonderful quotations that impacted me. Here are a couple that I thought I’d pass along:

Man falls from the pursuit of the ideal of plan living and high thinking the moment he wants to multiply his daily wants. Man’s happiness really lies in contentment.Mohandas Gandhi

And another:

Materialism is a preoccupation with material things, until they smother our spiritual life. We need to hear again the words of Jesus ‘Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth’ (Matthew 6:19). Again, ‘Beware of covetousness, a human life does not consist in the abundance of our possessions’ (Luke 12:15). That is, there is more to life than money and property. – John Stott
