After writing about some of the more interesting tendencies within the evangelical church today, I happened to hear a fascinating dialogue on the radio on Sunday morning.
Speaking of Faith, a public radio religion show, had an interesting conversation between three figures with disparate viewpoints about evangelical engagement in the public square:
- Chuck Colson: former Nixon aide who converted to Christianity amidst the Watergate scandal and rocked the public world with his story of conversion in his book Born Again
- Greg Boyd: mega-church pastor who strongly spoke out against the push to support conservative candidates during the last presidential election and lost 1,000 members of his church because of it; much of his viewpoint is chronicled in The Myth of a Christian Nation
- Shane Claiborne: important figure in the new monasticism movement and author of The Irresistible Revolution
At times hilarious and often challenging, this discussion is worth listening to because of the variety of views discussed. No one will come away from this not feeling a little riled up by different viewpoints.
It’s good to hear these important voices in the conversation about faith and the public square today.
