Tony Blair: Religion and the Future of Politics

I came across two interesting articles last week about Tony Blair, former Prime Minister in the UK. Alongside of his daunting role as special peace envoy to the Middle East, Mr. Blair is now launching the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.

To quote his web-site, the goals of this new foundation are:

  • to promote respect and understanding between the major religions;
  • to make the case for faith as a force for good; and
  • to encourage inter-faith initiatives to tackle global poverty and conflict.

I have to say that I was not strongly aware of Mr. Blair’s sense of Christian faith until I read up on this new development for him. I think that the British sensibilities bring with them a quite different regard for and approach to the integration (or lack thereof) of faith with the public square.

It’s worth your time to read the following two articles about Mr. Blair’s new endeavor and how his faith shapes his politics:

It’s also of note that Rick Warren is on the board of the foundation, being mentioned in the Time article.
