New Media and Ministry

Those who follow me on Facebook or Twitter have seen some of the interesting discussion generated in those places about how new media can be useful for ministry and in the church.

Some of my questions revolve around:

• how do we create authentic community within these new social realms?
• how do we maximize our use of these media without being used by them?
• how is our understanding of traditional spiritual activities/disciplines like worship, prayer, and Scripture study changed – for better or worse – as we engage in these areas?

Ironically enough, my friend, Brian Hofmeister, recently posted on his blog on the related topic of how some recent internet resources, specifically Monvee and The City, can be used for making disciples within (and without?) the church. This is obviously a hot discussion.
