In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They will perish, but You remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing You will change them
and they will be discarded.
But You remain the same,
and Your years will never end.
The children of Your servants will live in Your presence;
their descendants will be established before You.
– Psalm 102:25-28
If these wonderful things of the earth will all wear out, how much more our endeavors as humans? If the mountains and seas and vast deserts will perish – will wear out like an old t-shirt – what of our projects, realized dreams, and achieved ends?
They are not greater in the longevity of their materials ends. The church buildings, conferences, resources, and so much more will, in the end, be discarded. We need this perspective.
But there is one enduring thing! The souls of women and men who are themselves changed by the projects, dreams, and ends. They will endure! To life with God or life without God, they will endure. We need this perspective as well.
