How Is God Speaking to You? (week 3)

A number of us are reading through the Bible in a year together in 2011. Every week, I will simply be leaving a small post where you all can leave responses of how God has been speaking to you through reading the Scriptures each day. This gives us the unique opportunity to keep a record together of how God speaks through the year to all of us.

Your insights can be short or long, simple or complex. The joy of this is hearing about what God is doing as we read together and pray for one another this year.

So, how is God speaking to you this third week through your readings in Genesis, Psalms, Proverbs, and the Gospel of Matthew?

  1. As I read Genesis, I can’t help but be encouraged how God was with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob even though they were clearly imperfect.

  2. Hi Everyone!
The way that God is speaking to me is very simple in that by doing this, reading through the Bible, I feel his Spirit constantly. I’m in his Word daily and it’s making a difference in my response and reaction in certain situations. I feel his presence in me and that impacts how I interact with others.

  3. This week, my wife and I read through Joseph’s story (we’re a little ahead, which probably won’t last long knowing how busy we tend to get). We were really struck by parallels between Joseph and Jesus. They both were: (1) shepherds of their fathers’ sheep, (2) sent by their fathers to their brothers, (3) targets of plots to do them harm, (4) sold for a few pieces of silver, (5) tempted, (6) falsely accused, (7) placed with 2 prisoners, one of whom was saved and the other lost, (8) able to forgive their tormentors and (9) exalted after suffering. With both, God took what men intended for evil and turned it into good. The more we read the OT, the more we see how it points directly to Jesus. What an awesome privilege it is to read a book breathed out by the Creator of the Universe!

    1. Thanks for drawing out those echoes of Christ found in Joseph, Mark. I hadn’t noticed all of them before. The more I read the OT, the more Joseph stands out as an amazing man.
