How is God Speaking to You? (week 20)

God is speaking to you and me through the Scriptures. What is He saying? I would love to hear from you about that.

A number of people have joined me in reading through the Bible in a year together in 2011. Whether you are participating in that or not, I would love to hear from you about how God has been speaking to you in your reading of the Bible.

  1. I love the imagery used by Abigail the wife of Nabal (who was “crude and mean in all of his dealing”) in 1 Sam. 25:29 (NLT). She says of David’s life “Even when you are chased by those whio seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch. But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling.” The people of God are “secure in his treasure pouch”. When I was young I has a special “treasure pouch” where I would keep my most valuable “treasures”, things that were the most important to me. I always kept my treasure pouch in a safe place that was only known by myself and one or two trusted friends. This is a great picture of how god sees us and keeps us, his children close to himself, in a safe, secure place.

  2. I’ve been trying to follow along with the Bible reading for this plan, but I find that I’ve been struggling to do it. I’ve found that I can’t keep myself disciplined enough to keep up, and I’ve fallen behind as a result. However, even through the struggle, God has been speaking to me. I’ve seen how my mindset is in the wrong place, that even though it may not be my intention, I’m trying to earn favor with God through reading my Bible when it’s not possible to do that. I need to focus on God’s grace because there’s nothing I can do to earn any favor from God. I’m not giving up on the reading yet, I just need to refocus and keep going.
