Paralyzed

This past Sunday, May 30, my message at Brooklife was entitled “Paralyzed,” drawing from the story of Jesus healing the paralytic in Matthew 9:1-8.

While much could be said from this passage, I wanted to focus in first on the authority Jesus has, which is a theme in the Gospel of Matthew, especially from the end of the Sermon on the Mount (see Matthew 7:28-29) through the miraculous signs in Matthew 8 and 9 (see Matthew 9:6 and 9:33).

I then focused in on Jesus’ authority to forgive and power to heal, which both point to the truth that Jesus is divine. This is implied in Jesus question (9:4-5) and the religious leaders exclamation (9:3; see the parallel in Mark 2:6-7).
