Interstate Faith (Thessalonica)

This weekend at Eastbrook Church we continued our series “Light for the City” with a look at the church in the city of Thessalonica.

I focused the sermon on 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10, especially on verse 8 where Paul says: “The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere.” The background on the Thessalonian church is found in Acts 17:1-9.

My main point was that we can learn from this model church about what it means to have a faith that rings out everywhere. Three marks of a church like this are that they are:

  1. Following the Leader, Jesus.
  2. Suffering with joy.
  3. Turning to God.
