While it was still dark, before sun’s rising,
He drew away to a desolate place
to be with His Father in prayer. He gave
Himself again to God’s will, Son rising
to His calling, goal, and identity.
Before all the wild whispering and cold
calls for healing, He returned to the bold
love of God in divine serenity.
Centered in the heart of God, Jesus went
out to speak and live grace and truth, bending
only to One Voice, and surrendering
to one call amidst all His slow descent.
His compassion the Father’s compassion.
His whole life showing God’s grace in action.
