I love listening to music and listen widely, enjoying jazz, rock, classical, pop, world music, and so much more. However, with this post I am not offering a top ten list of songs I think are generally interesting or musically fascinating. That would be another post entirely.
Here, I want to continue themes related to my sabbatical by sharing some songs that are worshipful or prayerful and became meaningful to me during my experience of the sabbatical. These are not in any particular order, but I hope you enjoy some of them as well.
“Be Still (Psalm 46)” by Wendell Kimbrough – I returned this song drawn from Psalm 46:11 to again and again in quiet times of prayer
“Always With Me” by The Porter’s Gate (featuring Doe, IAmSon, Paul Zach)
“Trisagion” by Fernando Ortega – I love Fernando’s beautiful rendition of this traditional prayer
“The Lord Will Have His Way” by The Porter’s Gate (featuring Dee Wilson & Emoni Wilkins) – yes, the Lord will have His way, and may the Lord have His way in me
“Trinity Song” by Sandra McCracken (featuring All Sons & Daughters) – this simple prayer-song was so helpful for me in recentering myself in the Triune God regularly
“The Jesus Prayer” by Jeff Johnson – Johnson’s setting of the Jesus Prayer to music is haunting and slows me down into a place of meaningful meditative prayer
“The Kingdom of Jesus” by The Porter’s Gate (featuring Jon Guerra & Sandra McCracken) – this was especially good to consider this Fall during election season
“I Shall Not Want” by Audrey Assad – I find this song so powerfully vulnerable and humbling
“Psalm 90” by Bifrost Arts (featuring Sarah Gregory) – this rendering of Psalm 90 is haunting and beautiful to me
“Rest in You” by All Sons & Daughters – this is not a new song by any means, but it continues to be a heart-cry for me and was especially so during the sabbatical rest
