On the way to work this morning, I caught an interesting piece on NPR about religion in America. This was the first in a series on NPR’s Morning Edition called “Christianity in the Public Square,” and was focused on the Christian roots of the founding of our nation. This segment can be accessed as audio and text at the following link: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4631001 . It’s definitely worth a look or listen.
The current emphasis upon religion within the political realm of the US is highly important to grapple with, especially following this past election.
What do you think? Was our country founded on explicit Christian principles – particularly the 10 Commandments as a basis for our laws – or on explicit religious pluralism?
