This past weekend at Eastbrook Church, I continued our series “Light for the City” with a message entitled “Passion for Christ.” This message looked at Paul’s words in Philippians 3:1-14 where Paul contrasts his former ‘religious’ way of approaching life with God with his current Christ-centered way of approaching life with God. A key statement in this passage is Paul’s words:
I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. (3:8)
I organized the message around three themes:
- Putting aside religion (3:1-6): knowing the difference between religion and a relationship with the living God
- Our passionate pursuit: knowing Christ (3:7-11): making the relational knowledge of Christ the most important pursuit of our lives
- Pressing on (3:12-14): exerting ourselves in the pursuit of Christ – regardless of our past or present – until the final day when we will be with Him face to face
