This past weekend at Eastbrook, we continued our series from the book of Nehemiah entitled “Rebuild and Repair: Engaging the World with Nehemiah.” Pastor Jim Caler preached a message entitled, “The Realities of Necessary Rebuilding,” which was based in Nehemiah 2:11-18.
You can find the message outline and video below. You can access the entire series here. Join us for weekend worship in-person or remotely via Eastbrook at Home.
Called to Be Builders
Mark 16:15
Nehemiah’s Process
1. Nehemiah Prayed and Prepared (vs 11)
Did not rush in but waited
Solidified his motivation “what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem”
2. Nehemiah Investigated the Situation Personally and Privately (vss 12-16)
Inspected = medical term – probing the wound to see the extent of the injury
“Good work is likely to be well done when it is first well considered.”
3. Nehemiah Defined the Problem Accurately (vs 17)
Includes himself in the problem and the solution –“we….us…we”
Identifies the consequences of not rebuilding – disgrace for God’s people
4. Nehemiah Pointed them to the Power and Provision (vs 18) of God

Dig Deeper
This week dig deeper in one or more of the following ways:
- Where do you most see the need for God’s kingdom to be rebuilt in your life, family or community at this point? How will you respond to this need?
- What are the stories or needs around that tug at your heart or where you do look in your community or country and want to weep?
- What keeps you from responding to those situations? How can you pray for them and specifically for God to help you see how you can bring His Good News to bear in those situations?
- Who can you enlist to help you fulfill God’s promises to transform that broken space?
