The Unseen is Seen: a poetic reflection on the incarnation

“For ask now about former ages, long before your own, ever since the day that God created human beings on the earth; ask from one end of heaven to the other: Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has its like ever been heard of? Has any people ever heard the voice of a god speaking out of a fire, as you have heard, and lived?” (Deuteronomy 4:32-33)

“Christ Jesus, who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself” (Philippians 2:5b-7a)

the unseen is seen
the unheard is heard
the never before possible is real
for the God of heaven
has torn the heavens and come down

and His feet have trod our earth
and His hands have held our flesh
and His words have echoed through our atmosphere

now all is different
now all sameness is charged with glory
now all is disrupted by His Presence forever here and holy

and my feet tread the earth differently
and my hands hold others differently
and my words bear a different, divine weight

oh glory, forever saturating minutiae
oh majesty investing all flesh and matter
oh wonder in the ordinary everyday and all matter’s molecules

praise the Father
praise the Son
praise the Spirit
Three in One!
