The Glory (John 1:14)

This past weekend at Eastbrook Church, I continued our series “Looking for God” with a message entitled “The Glory.” I was primarily looking at John 1:14:

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I framed the message around three main points:

  1. Because in Jesus we see the glory of the Word made flesh, our daily lives take on new meaning. – The incarnation makes our physical daily lives significant and important.
  2. Because in Jesus we encounter the glory of the Word moving in, we can know that God is always with us. – Jesus is the new tent – or tabernacle – of God, signifying the presence of God with us; this is Emmanuel.
  3. As Jesus shows us God’ glory, He is the Word who redefines ‘glory’. – Jesus flips our human idea of glory on its head by showing that true glory is marked by service, living for another, and giving ourselves completely.
