Multiplying (Study Questions)

Here are the discussion questions that accompany my message from this past weekend at Eastbrook Church entitled “Multiplying.”

Discussion Questions:

1. How did you come to be a follower of Jesus? Tell your story? Who were the people who most influenced you to follow Jesus and how did they do that?

2. This final week in our series, “Living Church,” we are exploring the concept of multiplication in the church. This first part of this week’s topic must focus on becoming disciples, or followers, of Jesus ourselves. What does Scripture say becoming a disciple Christ means?

3. Based on this, where would you describe yourself as a disciple of Jesus?

4. Jesus’ call to His disciples was for something beyond themselves. Read the following three passages and consider what Jesus is asking His followers to do?

  • Matthew 28:18-20
  • Luke 24:45-49
  • Acts 1:7-8

5. Read through these passages about how the church expanded throughout Acts and take notes on how and why it happened:

  • Acts 1:15
  • Acts 2:41
  • Acts 2:47
  • Acts 4:4
  • Acts 5:13-14
  • Acts 6:7
  • Acts 8:12
  • Acts 9:31
  • Acts 9:41-42
  • Acts 10:44-45
  • Acts 11:20-21
  • Acts 12:24
  • Acts 13:49
  • Acts 14:20-21
  • Acts 16:5
  • Acts 16:34
  • Acts 17:4
  • Acts 18:7-8
  • Acts 19:20

6. The Apostle Paul was a striking example of someone who developed other people. He talks about that in 2 Timothy 2:2. Read that passage but then observe how Paul developed others in the following passages of Scripture:

  • Acts 16:1-4
  • Acts 19:21-22
  • Acts 20:1-6
  • Romans 16:21-24
  • Ephesians 6:21-22
  • Colossians 4:7-15
  • 1 Timothy 1:18-20
  • Titus 1:4-5; 3:12-14

7. Identify one practical way you could more fully respond to Christ as a disciple or learner of Him this week. How might you personally live that out? How could you develop disciples around you more actively? Write it down, reflect on it, and put it into practice this week. If you are in a small group, discuss this with one another.

  1. My relationship with my many connections on LINKEDIN is a silent 24×7 witness.
My profile blatantly states and shows I am a follower of Jesus. If I knew how to make that more plain I would. Open to suggestions!
    Blessings
