This weekend at Eastbrook, I brought a message entitled “The Heart of Love” as we continued our series, “Love Letters,” on 1, 2, & 3 John. It was based out of 1 John 4:7-16.

Love’s Origin
- “for love comes from God” (1 John 4:7)
Love’s Definition
- “God is love” (1 John 4:8, 16)
Love’s Display
- “This is how God showed His love among us” (1 John 4:9; cf. 1 John 4:12 & John 1:18)
Love’s Gift
- “He sent His one and only Son into the world” (1 John 4:9; cf. John 3:16, 18)
- “The Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world” (1 John 4:14; cf. John 4:42)
Love’s Sacrifice
- “He [God] sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10; cf. 1 John 2:1-2)
Love’s Benefit
- “That we might live through Him” (1 John 4:9; cf. John 17:3)
Love’s Presence
- “If we love one another, God lives in us” (1 John 4:12)
- “This is how we know that we live in Him and He in us” (1 John 4:13)
Love’s Support
- “We know and rely on the love God has for us” (1 John 4:16)
Love’s Completion
- “If we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:12)
